The Alberta Real Estate Association plans to hold a vote asking whether they are in favour of investing a portion of their annual dues to protect commissions for all members. Sounds great on the surface but is it really?

Marian Barry, a broker with Royal LePage True North Realty in Fort McMurray, Alta., recently was recognized with an Honorary Life Membership by the Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA).

Ian Burns was recently named CEO of the Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA). Burns has a strong portfolio of governance and regulatory work to go along with extensive experience, the association says.


“Alberta Realtors are actively involved in their communities throughout the year, but we come together even more swiftly in times of need,” says Ian Burns, CEO of the Alberta Real Estate Association.

The Realtors Association of Edmonton presented its highest honour, the Realtor of the Year Award, to Charlie Ponde, an associate at Realty Executives North Star.



"This type of engagement by our members demonstrates the dedication Realtors have to the betterment of their industry,” says Geneva Tetreault, chair of the Realtors Association of Edmonton.


The Alberta Real Estate Association (AREA) says it is “taking steps… to look at the issue of residential property measurement" after a report on fines levied on real estate salespeople for misrepresenting the size of listings.

The Alberta Real Estate Association says it supports a plan announced by Rachel Notley's government to work with cities and municipalities across Alberta to ensure more affordable housing units are built.
