  1. When I started in 1974 sellers and buyers judged you by your visual impression. You were judged to be ‘successful’ by the luxury car you drove, the diamond rings on your fingers, the tailored suit and imported shoes and fine grooming. We made no promises other then ‘I’m successful because I know my business’ and it worked. Over the years I have watched as Realtors foolishly started promising everything including the moon to Sellers and Buyers and because they have failed to fulfil the promises, today, Realtors are not trusted, are accused of lying, relegated to being ‘sleazy’ sales people, un-trustworthy, etc. etc. Over the years we have lost the respect and high esteem we were once regarded. Sad! But we brought it on ourselves. If a Realtor doesn’t match the promises of his or her competition, you probably won’t get the listing or the client. Again, sad. It is a vicious circle we have created and only have ourselves to blame. Professionals are judged on their ‘successes’. As Realtors, we should be emphasizing our accomplishments on behalf of our clients and NOT on a bunch of un-keepable promises.
