    All who have been reading REM over the last few years will recognized that this ‘consultant’ attitude is the desired mindset that I have been ranting on about incessantly. Real estate university says nothing about this. Sales managers say nothing about this. Brokerage owners say nothing about this. Local board associations say nothing about this. Provincial associations say nothing about this. CREA says nothing about this. All of your Realtor buddies say nothing about this. Why? Because changing one’s sales stripes into consultant’s stripes risks losing that sale and/or listing (multiplied by hundreds of thousands of incidents per year). All of the influence-peddling psychological sales scripts that one has memorized and trotted out at opportune times (for the salespersons’/brokerages’ benefits) must be overtly flushed down the toilet by the registrants/agents (along with all the rest of the bullshit that has been osmosisly soaked up into Realtors’ collectively molded brains via the real estate sales culture’s indoctrination machine) in order for the individual registrant/agent to overtly break ranks with the cultural group-think rot and do the right thing…work for the CONSUMER…you know, those folks who pay the freight.
    This is one of the best, if not ‘the’ best, pieces of Realtor information/advice that has ever appeared on REM. Unfortunately, only about eleven hundred to two thousand Realtors will read it. Many of those, possibly the majority, will not take heed. Nothing will change but for a few professionally-minded folks who likely act as consultants already. Pity.
    This is why government is stepping into the fray. Government has no skin in the game, except at the ballot box, and non-professional Realtors (the vast majority of the Realtor population, in my opinion) are mightily outnumbered by the masses of consumers…who read (unlike most Realtors) and think about stuff that affects their lives…which leads to their determination of vote selections.
    This Canadian real estate sales culture is incapable of self-change for the betterment of the consumer and the industry itself. Ergo, government will do it for you (ORE) and the consumer, whether the industry operatives agree with government’s direction or not. You had your chance ORE; you were given fair warning over the years, and you chose to hold ‘er steady as she goes. You are the Titanic, and the iceberg looms directly ahead. Money, and the pursuit thereof, has been your master, and like the Titanic’s Captain Smith, in his lust for ownership of the speed record across the Atlantic, you collectively ignored all of the warnings and sped forth…dollar signs firmly embedded in your minds’ eyes. Start manning the lifeboats.
